Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), the pathogenic bacterium that causes tuberculosis, has evolved sophisticated defense mechanisms to counteract the cytotoxicity of reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated within host macrophages during infection. The melH gene in Mtb and Mycobacterium marinum (Mm) plays a crucial role in defense mechanisms against ROS generated during infection. We demonstrate that melH encodes an epoxide hydrolase and contributes to ROS detoxification. Deletion of melH in Mm resulted in a mutant with increased sensitivity to oxidative stress, increased accumulation of aldehyde species, and decreased production of mycothiol and ergothioneine. This heightened vulnerability is attributed to the increased expression of whiB3, a universal stress sensor. The absence of melH also resulted in reduced intracellular levels of NAD+, NADH, and ATP. Bacterial growth was impaired, even in the absence of external stressors, and the impairment was carbon source dependent. Initial MelH substrate specificity studies demonstrate a preference for epoxides with a single aromatic substituent. Taken together, these results highlight the role of melH in mycobacterial bioenergetic metabolism and provide new insights into the complex interplay between redox homeostasis and generation of reactive aldehyde species in mycobacteria. IMPORTANCE: This study unveils the pivotal role played by the melH gene in Mycobacterium tuberculosis and in Mycobacterium marinum in combatting the detrimental impact of oxidative conditions during infection. This investigation revealed notable alterations in the level of cytokinin-associated aldehyde, para-hydroxybenzaldehyde, as well as the redox buffer ergothioneine, upon deletion of melH. Moreover, changes in crucial cofactors responsible for electron transfer highlighted melH's crucial function in maintaining a delicate equilibrium of redox and bioenergetic processes. MelH prefers epoxide small substrates with a phenyl substituted substrate. These findings collectively emphasize the potential of melH as an attractive target for the development of novel antitubercular therapies that sensitize mycobacteria to host stress, offering new avenues for combating tuberculosis.

In this study, the flexoelectric characteristics of 2D TiO2 nanosheets are examined. The theoretical calculations and experimental results reveal an excellent strain-induced flexoelectric potential (flexopotential) by an effective defect engineering strategy, which suppresses the recombination of electron-hole pairs, thus substantially improving the catalytic activity of the TiO2 nanosheets in the degradation of Rhodamine B dye and the hydrogen evolution reaction in a dark environment. The results indicate that strain-induced bandgap reduction enhances the catalytic activity of the TiO2 nanosheets. In addition, the TiO2 nanosheets degraded Rhodamine B, with kobs being ≈1.5 × 10-2 min-1 in dark, while TiO2 nanoparticles show only an adsorption effect. 2D TiO2 nanosheets achieve a hydrogen production rate of 137.9 µmol g-1 h-1 under a dark environment, 197% higher than those of TiO2 nanoparticles (70.1 µmol g-1 h-1 ). The flexopotential of the TiO2 nanosheets is enhanced by increasing the bending moment, with excellent flexopotential along the y-axis. Density functional theory is used to identify the stress-induced bandgap reduction and oxygen vacancy formation, which results in the self-dissociation of H2 O on the surface of the TiO in the dark. The present findings provide novel insights into the role of TiO2 flexocatalysis in electrochemical reactions.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Biomaterial implants are emerging as a treatment choice for pleurodesis; however, the optimal biomaterial and form for managing spontaneous pneumothorax, particularly post-video-assisted thoracic surgery, remain under investigation. This study evaluated the mechanical and biological properties of the poly-ε-caprolactone (PCL) membrane as a sclerosing agent for pleurodesis in Landrace pigs. METHODS: Twenty-four Landrace pigs were split into two groups for mechanical abrasion and PCL membrane pleurodesis, with the latter group's PCL meshes inserted using video-assisted thoracic surgery. The mechanical and biological properties of the PCL membrane were assessed in pigs at three, six, and 12 months after the procedure. This assessment involved a range of techniques, such as the T-Peel test, macroscopic evaluation with a scoring scale, microscopic examination, and biomechanical and molecular weight analysis. RESULTS: The PCL membrane group outperformed the traditional abrasion group, with stronger adhesions seen over longer implantation durations. This group also showed superior and more consistent results in both macroscopic and microscopic evaluations compared to the control group. The membrane-based method was easier and faster to perform than the control group's method, and importantly, no mortality occurred following membrane implantation. CONCLUSION: This study is the pioneering effort to present long-term findings regarding the mechanical and biological properties of the PCL membrane in an in vivo animal model. The membrane demonstrated better adhesion ability than that of traditional abrasion and showed reassuring biocompatibility in both the pig model, suggesting its potential as treatment for patients with primary spontaneous pneumothorax. Further clinical studies are needed to support these observations.

Background/purpose: Biomaterial-based implants are gaining traction as an option for pleurodesis treatment, yet the search for the best biomaterial or the most suitable shape to handle spontaneous pneumothorax continues. This forward-looking research assessed the use of a poly-ε-caprolactone membrane for its safety when applied as a sclerosant in pleurodesis procedures in human patients. Methods: From July 2017 to February 2018, we conducted a Phase I trial in which 10 patients with primary spontaneous pneumothorax were treated using video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery with a poly-ε-caprolactone membrane. These procedures encompassed bleb resection and mechanical pleurodesis through parietal pleura scrubbing. After resection, a 150 × 150 mm poly-ε-caprolactone membrane was applied to the apex. The primary outcome measures were the adverse events and laboratory outcomes. Results: After surgery, we observed no cardiopulmonary-related adverse events or indications of systemic inflammation. Furthermore, no episodes of hypothermia or hyperthermia occurred. Chest radiographs showed no evident pneumonitis or effusion associated with tissue reactions. The average follow-up duration was 31.7 ± 17.7 months, during which two patients exhibited recurrence. Conclusion: This study is the first to show the biocompatibility of poly-ε-caprolactone in humans, suggesting its potential as a treatment option for patients with primary spontaneous pneumothorax. Despite the relatively small number of patients, we maintain confidence in the reliability and safety profile of the PCL membrane, bolstered by its previously established efficacy in applications involving other organs. Phase II and phase III clinical studies are needed to support these observations.

This study develops a single-atom Pt-loaded graphitic carbon nitride (SA-Pt/CN) and evaluates its piezo-flexocatalytic properties by conducting a hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and Rhodamine B (RB) dye degradation test under ultrasonic vibration in the dark. SA-Pt/CN has a hydrogen gas yield of 1283.8 µmol g-1  h-1 , which is 23.3 times higher than that of pristine g-C3 N4 . Moreover, SA-Pt/CN enhances the dye degradation reaction rate by ≈2.3 times compared with the pristine sample. SA-Pt/CN exhibits lattice distortion and strain gradient enlargement caused by the single atom Pt at the N sites of g-C3 N4 , which disrupts the symmetric structure and contributes to the enhancement of piezoelectric and flexoelectric polarization. As far as it is known, this is the first study to investigate the piezo-flexocatalytic reaction of SA-Pt/CN without light irradiation and provides new insights into single-atom piezocatalysts.

By illuminating key 6-azasteroid-protein interactions in both Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) and the closely related model organism Mycobacterium marinum (Mm), we sought to improve the antimycobacterial potency of 6-azasteroids and further our understanding of the mechanisms responsible for their potentiation of the antituberculosis drug bedaquiline. We selected a newly developed 6-azasteroid analog and an analog reported previously (ACS Infect. Dis. 2019, 5 (7), 1239-1251) to study their phenotypic effects on Mtb and Mm, both alone and in combination with bedaquiline. The 6-azasteroid analog, 17ß-[N-(4-trifluoromethoxy-diphenylmethyl)carbamoyl]-6-propyl-azaandrostan-3-one, robustly potentiated bedaquiline-mediated antimycobacterial activity, with a nearly 8-fold reduction in Mm bedaquiline minimal inhibitory concentration (85 nM alone versus 11 nM with 20 µM 6-azasteroid). This analog displayed minimal inhibitory activity against recombinant mycobacterial 3ß-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, a previously identified target of several 6-azasteroids. Dose-dependent potentiation of bedaquiline by this analog reduced mycobacterial intracellular ATP levels and impeded the ability of Mtb to neutralize exogenous oxidative stress in culture. We developed two 6-azasteroid photoaffinity probes to investigate azasteroid-protein interactions in Mm whole cells. Using bottom-up mass spectrometric profiling of the cross-linked proteins, we identified eight potential Mm/Mtb protein targets for 6-azasteroids. The nature of these potential targets indicates that proteins related to oxidative stress resistance play a key role in the BDQ-potentiating activity of azasteroids and highlights the potential impact of inhibition of these targets on the generation of drug sensitivity.

Cell expansion of human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) commonly depends on Matrigel as a coating matrix on two-dimensional (2D) culture plates and 3D microcarriers. However, the xenogenic Matrigel requires sophisticated quality-assurance processes to meet clinical requirements. In this study, we develop an innovative coating-free medium for expanding hPSCs. The xenofree medium supports the weekend-free culture and competitive growth of hPSCs on several cell culture plastics without an additional pre-coating process. The pluripotent stemness of the expanded cells is stably sustained for more than 10 passages, featured with high pluripotent marker expressions, normal karyotyping, and differentiating capacity for three germ layers. The expression levels of some integrins are reduced, compared with those of the hPSCs on Matrigel. This medium also successfully supports the clonal expansion and induced pluripotent stem cell establishment from mitochondrial-defective MELAS (mitochondrial encephalomyopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke-like episodes) patient's peripheral blood mononuclear cells. This innovative hPSC medium provides a straightforward scale-up process for producing clinical-orientated hPSCs by excluding the conventional coating procedure.

A high-entropy oxide nanocomposite with Ag(CuZn)(AlCr)2O4 and CuO phases is fabricated to form an abundantly hierarchical wrinkled surface. Application of a mechanical force to the nanocomposite resulted in a nonhomogeneous strain gradient at the interface between the Ag(CuZn)(AlCr)2O4 and CuO phases, changing the local charge distribution and creating flexoelectric polarization that delayed electron/hole recombination. Transmission electron microscopy energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy mapping revealed that the Ag, Cu, Zn, Al, Cr, and O elements were highly distributed throughout the nanocomposite. The nanocomposite produced 2116 µmol·g-1 h-1 of H2 without external light irradiation, which is 980% higher than the H2 produced by the same nanocomposite under the photocatalytic process. A strong electrical field is observed at the interface between the Ag(CuZn)(AlCr)2O4 and CuO phases, demonstrating that a flexoelectric potential (flexopotential) is established at the structural boundaries because the strain gradient is localized at these interfaces. The nanocomposite is a promising approach for environmentally friendly energy production.

Galaxy mergers produce pairs of supermassive black holes (SMBHs), which may be witnessed as dual quasars if both SMBHs are rapidly accreting. The kiloparsec (kpc)-scale separation represents a physical regime sufficiently close for merger-induced effects to be important1 yet wide enough to be directly resolvable with the facilities currently available. Whereas many kpc-scale, dual active galactic nuclei-the low-luminosity counterparts of quasars-have been observed in low-redshift mergers2, no unambiguous dual quasar is known at cosmic noon (z ≈ 2), the peak of global star formation and quasar activity3,4. Here we report multiwavelength observations of Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) J0749 + 2255 as a kpc-scale, dual-quasar system hosted by a galaxy merger at cosmic noon (z = 2.17). We discover extended host galaxies associated with the much brighter compact quasar nuclei (separated by 0.46″ or 3.8 kpc) and low-surface-brightness tidal features as evidence for galactic interactions. Unlike its low-redshift and low-luminosity counterparts, SDSS J0749 + 2255 is hosted by massive compact disk-dominated galaxies. The apparent lack of stellar bulges and the fact that SDSS J0749 + 2255 already follows the local SMBH mass-host stellar mass relation, suggest that at least some SMBHs may have formed before their host stellar bulges. While still at kpc-scale separations where the host-galaxy gravitational potential dominates, the two SMBHs may evolve into a gravitationally bound binary system in around 0.22 Gyr.

Purpose: Diabetes knowledge is important for people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) to improve their health. Therefore, it is important to validate an instrument for assessing diabetes knowledge. The present study aimed to validate the 24-item Diabetes Knowledge Questionnaire (DKQ). Patients and Methods: The 24-item DKQ and Diabetes-specific Quality of Life Module (DMQoL) were administered to 425 patients (mean±SD age=58.4±11.6) with type 2 DM. Results: The 24-item DKQ was first examined for its factor structure using exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Items with low factors loadings were removed and 18 items were retained to make a DKQ-18. In DKQ-18, five factors were identified, which were named as diabetes etiology and symptoms (F1), intermediate nursing (F2), complications (F3), diet and treatment (F4), and elementary nursing (F5). The DKQ-18 had satisfactory internal consistency (Cronbach's α= 0.732 and McDonald's ω=0.748), good known-group validity (participants with a higher level of education showed better score in DKQ-18; participants with HbA1c ≤7 had better score in DKQ-18 compared to group of HbA1c level >8.5), acceptable test-retest reliability (r=0.69), adequate responsiveness (DKQ-18 can detect knowledge change), and concurrent validity with DMQoL. Conclusion: The DKQ-18 is a valid measure for assessing diabetes knowledge. The DKQ-18 could evaluate participants' diabetes knowledge and improve their diabetes knowledge and self-care through a diabetes team and serve as a tool to evaluate the knowledge of participants with type 2 DM.

Background: Machine learning algorithms for predicting 30-day stroke readmission are rarely discussed. The aims of this study were to identify significant predictors of 30-day readmission after stroke and to compare prediction accuracy and area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC) curve in five models: artificial neural network (ANN), K nearest neighbor (KNN), random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), naive Bayes classifier (NBC), and Cox regression (COX) models. Methods: The subjects of this prospective cohort study were 1,476 patients with a history of admission for stroke to one of six hospitals between March, 2014, and September, 2019. A training dataset (n = 1,033) was used for model development, and a testing dataset (n = 443) was used for internal validation. Another 167 patients with stroke recruited from October, to December, 2019, were enrolled in the dataset for external validation. A feature importance analysis was also performed to identify the significance of the selected input variables. Results: For predicting 30-day readmission after stroke, the ANN model had significantly (P < 0.001) higher performance indices compared to the other models. According to the ANN model results, the best predictor of 30-day readmission was PAC followed by nasogastric tube insertion and stroke type (P < 0.05). Using a machine learning ANN model to obtain an accurate estimate of 30-day readmission for stroke and to identify risk factors may improve the precision and efficacy of management for these patients. Conclusion: Using a machine-learning ANN model to obtain an accurate estimate of 30-day readmission for stroke and to identify risk factors may improve the precision and efficacy of management for these patients. For stroke patients who are candidates for PAC rehabilitation, these predictors have practical applications in educating patients in the expected course of recovery and health outcomes.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to review the reproductive outcomes of women with a cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP) treated with dilation and curettage (D&C) after uterine artery embolization (UAE). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a retrospective study to review women who received UAE followed by D&C for CSP between January 2010 and December 2019 at the Changhua Christian Hospital, Changhua in Taiwan. Data were collected from both electronic and paper medical records. Patients were contact via phone call to follow up reproductive outcomes between January 2021 and March 2021. These subsequent reproductive outcomes (including pregnancy rate, secondary infertility rate, miscarriage rate, live birth rate, and recurrent CSP rate) were recorded and analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 53 cases of women who received UAE followed by D&C for CSP were identified. The women's average age was 34.8 ± 5.1 years. The mean gestational age at diagnosis was 6.2 ± 1.1 weeks. The mean level for human chorionic gonadotropin was 23,407.7 ± 29,105.5 mIU/ml. The average of blood loss during D&C was 19.2 ± 43.6 ml. The average hospitalization time after D&C was 3.5 ± 1.1 days. Of the 53 cases, 10 patients were lost to follow-up and 43 patients agreed to follow-up on reproductive outcomes in 2021. Twenty-three patients who desired to conceive were analyzed. Nineteen out of these 23 women (82.6%) succeeded in conceiving again and gave birth to 15 healthy babies (78.9%). Only one woman (1/19, 5.3%) experienced recurrence of CSP. The average time interval between previous CSP treatment and subsequent conception was 10.4 ± 6.7 months. CONCLUSION: UAE combined with curettage treatment in CSP patients results in a positive rate of subsequent pregnancy outcomes. This minimally invasive procedure may be considered as one of the treatment options for CSP, as it enables preservation of fertility after treatment.

BACKGROUND: Diabetic foot is a common and costly complication of diabetes. No existing study has looked at the effect of continuity of care on amputations of diabetes (DM) patients while considering pay-for-performance (P4P) participation. We investigated the impact of the P4P program and the continuity of care index (COCI) on the incidence of lower extremity amputations (LEA) among diabetics in Taiwan. METHODS: This was a population-based cohort study using insurance claims data from 1997 to 2013. We selected 15,650 DM patients in the P4P program along with age- and sex-matched non-P4P participants at a 1:4 ratio. Time-weighted average (TWA) of the COCI was calculated and included in the time-dependent Cox proportional hazard models to examine the impact of P4P and COCI on the risk of LEA, while controlling for individual and area level characteristics. RESULTS: During four-year follow-up, 1816 subjects experienced LEA. The cumulative LEA hazard rate of the P4P group (n = 153) was significantly lower than that of the non-P4P group (n = 1663) (hazard ratio = 0.37, 95% CI = 0.31-0.43, p < 0.0001, by log-rank test). In the time-dependent Cox proportional hazard model, the adjusted hazard ratios (aHR) for the P4P group was 0.35, (p < 0.0001). With the low COCI (< 0.360) group as the reference, the aHR of LEA was 0.49 (p < 0.0001) for the middle COCI group, (p < 0.0001), and the aHR of LEA for the high COCI (≥0.643) group was 0.23 (p < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS: Participating in the P4P program and increasing COCI might reduce the risk of amputation for DM patients, independently and synergistically.

Background: Few studies have compared the optimal duration and intensity of organized multidisciplinary neurological/rehabilitative care delivered in a regional/district hospital with the standard rehabilitative care delivered in the general neurology/rehabilitation ward of a medical center. This study measured functional outcomes and conducted cost-utility analysis of an organized multidisciplinary postacute care (PAC) project in secondary care compared with standard rehabilitative care delivered in tertiary care. Methods: This prospective cohort study enrolled 1,476 patients who had a stroke between March 2014 and March 2018 and had a modified Rankin scale score of 2-4. After exact matching for age ± 1 year, sex, year of stroke diagnosis, nasogastric tube, and Foley catheter and propensity score matching for the other covariates, we obtained 120 patients receiving PAC (the PAC group) from four regional/district hospitals and 120 patients not receiving PAC (the non-PAC group) from two medical centers. Results: At baseline, the non-PAC group showed significantly better functional outcomes than the PAC group, including EuroQol-5 dimensions (EQ-5D), Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Barthel index (BI). During weeks 7-12 of rehabilitation, improvements in all functional outcomes were significantly larger in the PAC group (P < 0.001) except for Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS). Cost-utility analysis revealed that the PAC group had a significantly lower mean (± standard deviation) of direct medical costs (US$3,480 ± $1,758 vs. US$3,785 ± $3,840, P < 0.001) and a significantly higher average gain of quality-adjusted life years (0.1993 vs. 0.1233, P < 0.001). The PAC project was an economically "dominant" strategy. Conclusions: The PAC project saved costs and significantly improved the functional outcomes of patients with stroke with slight to moderately severe disabilities. Randomized control trials are required to corroborate these results.

BACKGROUND: Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a life-threatening disease with a fulminant presentation. Although early diagnosis can be aided by combining physical examination, the Laboratory Risk Indicator for Necrotizing Fasciitis score, and computed tomography, a mortality rate of 30% is still reported. In the modern times, an economical and efficient biomarker for predicting mortality in NF patients is still lacking. Platelet count is typically measured in routine blood tests and aids in predicting disease severity. We aimed to clarify the role of platelet count as a predictive factor for aspects of prognosis, such as mortality and surgical outcomes, in patients with NF. METHODS: We identified 285 patients with NF between 2018 and 2020 in a single medical center in southern Taiwan. Medical records were collected for the evaluation of patients with thrombocytopenia. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed for different outcomes. RESULTS: We included 115 patients with confirmed diagnoses of NF. Twelve patients died with a mortality rate of 10.4%. Patients with thrombocytopenia exhibited a higher mortality rate (20.9% vs 4.2%, P = 0.006), more shock episodes (51.2% vs 11.1%, P < 0.001), higher intensive care unit admission rate (46.5% vs 13.9%, P < 0.001), and longer hospital length of stay (37.49 ± 24.12 days vs 28.82 ± 14.63 days, P = 0.037) than those without thrombocytopenia. All patients infected with Vibrio species exhibited thrombocytopenia. In multivariate analysis, independent risk factors for mortality were thrombocytopenia (odds ratio, 4.57; 95% confidence interval, 1.08-19.25) and single gram-negative bacterial culture from the wound (odds ratio 6.88; 95% confidence interval, 1.58-29.96). CONCLUSIONS: In patients with NF and subsequent thrombocytopenia, a higher mortality rate, greater numbers of shock episodes, higher demand for intensive care unit, and longer hospital length of stay were observed than in those without thrombocytopenia. In patients with NF, platelet count is a valuable and economic indicator of prognosis. Once thrombocytopenia developed in patients with necrotizing fasciitis, aggressive antibiotic treatment and surgical management are required to improve the chances of recovery.

Cutaneous malignant melanoma is a rare but fatal disease in East Asia. Despite its increasing incidence, a general lack of awareness about the disease was noted. This study aims to provide population-based prognostic analysis of melanoma with sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in Taiwan. We conducted this retrospective cohort study using the data from Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database during 1997-2013. The study cohort contains 3284 patients. The 5-year survival rates of patients undergoing SLNB and not undergoing SLNB were 45.5% and 33.6%. In multivariate analysis, age ≥ 80 years [adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) = 2.15] and male (aHR = 1.19) were associated with a poorer prognosis, while high social economic status (SES) (aHR = 0.69) and undergoing SLNB (aHR = 0.84) were good prognostic factors. Old age and low SES were associated with lower percentages of patients undergoing SLNB (P < 0.001). E-value analysis suggested robustness to unmeasured confounding. In conclusion, undergoing SLNB was associated with a better prognosis. The poor prognosis of old age and low SES may be due to decreased percentages of patients undergoing SLNB. Therefore, we recommend that SLNB should be performed on patients, especially in old age or low SES, who are candidates for SLNB according to current guidelines to achieve maximal survival.

Background: Gallstone disease (GD) is associated with a high risk of cardiovascular disease. However, it is unknown whether GD contributes to atrial fibrillation (AF). We aimed to investigate the association between GD and AF. Methods: We performed a population-based cohort study using data from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database between 2001 and 2011. A GD cohort of 230,076 patients was compared with a control cohort consisting of an equal number of patients matched for age, sex, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal comorbidities. Results: In total, 5,992 (49.8/10,000 person-years) patients with GD and 5,804 (44.5/10,000 person-years) controls developed AF. GD increased AF risk with a hazard ratio (HR) of 1.20 [95% confidence interval (CI), 1.16-1.25]. In patients with GD but without cholecystectomy, the HR of AF reached 1.57 (95% CI = 1.50-1.63). After cholecystectomy, the HR of AF significantly decreased to 0.85 (95% CI = 0.81-0.90). Among the three age groups with GD (<45, 45-64, and ≥65 years), the adjusted HRs of AF were 1.59 (95% CI = 1.08-2.33), 1.31 (95% CI = 1.18-1.45), and 1.18 (95% CI = 1.13-1.22), respectively. Compared with patients with a CHA2DS2-VASc score equal to 0, the HRs of AF risk among total cohort patients and a score equal to 1, 2, 3, and ≥ 4 were 1.28 (95% CI = 1.15-1.43), 2.26 (95% CI = 2.00-2.56), 3.81 (95% CI = 3.35-4.34), and 5.09 (95% CI = 4.42-5.87), respectively. Conclusion: This population-based longitudinal follow-up study showed that patients with GD had an increased AF risk. Moreover, cholecystectomy was related to reduced AF risk. Cardiovascular checkups may be necessary for patients with GD, especially those who are young and have other typical risk factors.
